- XYZ Company needs to update 500 of their regional Sales staff four times per week. The list service is controlled by the system administrator at XYZ who submits one request to the list server which redirects to each of the 500 reps.
- The pricing is calculated by computing to total e-mail messages sent per month and multiplying by .0015For example:
- Weekly e-mails 500 reps * 4 e-mails = 2,000 Monthly e-mails 2,000 * 4 weeks = 8,000 total email sent
- Total monthly charge = 8,000 * .0015 = $12.00
Such a listserver as illustrated in option #2 above can be set up so that the system administrator can have total control as to whom can subscribe to the service. Whether you are creating a mailing list or interactive listserver, Majordomo offers rather comprehensive, yet flexible functionality.
- Consider a "webtalk" listserver implemented by a Web Provider. Here, the listserver is used as an interactive medium by which customers can subscribe or unsubscribe to the listserver via email and without any manual effort on part of the system administrator. Once a customer has subscribed, he/she can pose questions by sending one email to webtalk@web.net which is in turn distributed to all current subscribers. If one or more readers wishes to post a follow-up message, a mere reply by email is all that is required in order for all subscribers to benefit.
- Again, the pricing is calculated by computing to total e-mails sent per month and multiplying by .001. For example:
- Daily e-mails 100 subscribers * 10 e-mails = 1,000 Monthly e-mails 1,000 * 30 days = 30,000 total email sent
- Total monthly charge = 30,000 * .0015 = $45.00
